My system was installed in 2011. Any time I have reached out to Western Solar I have always received wonderful, timely, professional responses and resolution to my questions or needs. I would highly recommend them to anyone who might be considering seeking quality solar panels and follow-up. If it were possible to rate more than 5-stars, I would do so.
The federal residential energy solar tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of income tax that you'd otherwise owe, valued at 30% of the total cost paid for a solar PV system. There is no maximum amount that can be claimed.
Systems installed by December 2032 are eligible for 30%, decreasing to 26% in 2023 and to 22% for systems installed in 2034. The tax credit expires in 2035 unless Congress renews it.
From July 1, 2019, through Dec 31, 2029, you do not have to pay sales or use tax on purchases of machinery and equipment used to generate at least 1 kilowatt (kW), but no more than 100 kW AC of electricity using solar energy. You also do not have to pay sales or use tax on labor charges for equipment installation from qualified businesses in Washington. Installation must be completed by Dec 31, 2029 to qualify for the sales and use tax exemption for labor charges.
Under Washington State law, utilities allow you to send excess electricity back onto the grid and credit your account in kilowatt-hours for the excess generation; this is called net metering (also referred to as 1:1, meaning when you export 1 kWh out to the grid, they give you a credit for 1 kWh which you can use at any time). This credit remains on your account until you use it, but the credit bank does reset each year on March 31st. Credit remaining at that time is zeroed out and the cycle starts again.
